EDITORIAL
March 2007
It's been quite a year so far. I didn't
manage to do a
February update. Well, it was there but then an unexpected glitch in
the system meant it was postponed. No, my computer didn't crash, I got
given a new one, well it's second hand but it's new to me, courtesy of
my cousin's husband, Phil who rescued it from the rubbish dump at his
work. Being a Linux man like myself, he kindly loaded Ubuntu
onto it
and I've spent the last month setting the system up, we still have to
update the entire system in a few weeks just to get eveything working
properly but it works, it works by God it works! I've never owned such
a fast computer, it reminds me of my very first computer, an old
Pentium 133 with a whopping 8MB of RAM. Hey I was using a typewriter
before that so this was a powerful typewriter. In the end when I
finally left the country it had 64 MB of RAM, a removeable
2GB
hard drive along with the internal 1.7. an internal ZIP drive and it
was really starting to show its age, but I worked with that old
compuier and managed to squeeze an incredible amount of work out of it.
I was able to design websites, write three complete novels, desktop
publish the first novel and do a lot of graphic work and novel writing,
short story writing on it. It just goes to show that you don't need the
fastest computer to get the job done, you just need motivation.
Speaking of
motivation, we have a planned anthology in the works, my erotic
anthology.
Erotic fables closed its doors in January. We all got an email thanking
us for
our support and announcing that the site was now closed.
I thought it was a
real shame, Erotic Fables was one of those sites that welcomed new
authors and
gave them a chance to prove themselves through submitting content,
rather than
being forced to go through an editor who may or may not like their
credentials.
Authors need what is called a sandbox in programming-speak, a place
where they
can test out their inner voice and experiment with new forms.
I
must admit that I could see both sides of the argument, the demand for
more
retained rights from writers and the assumption from Erotic Fables that
writers
would hand over all their rights to a new startup. It's important to
establish
your credentials as a content provider before you start playing around
with
rights. A better alternative would have been a peer to peer sharing
agreement
where everyone had to do a bit of legwork.
But my work has all come back to
me and will be getting released in an anthology somewhere along the
line,
hopefully within the next few months.
The Slasher still plagues me though, so
much editing and so little time, I despair of every completing the
final edit. i
keep putting the date forward and then realising that I need more time.
I could
have 48 hours in one day and it still wouldn't be enough time.
We have more
chapters from Code Blue, this time I'm uploading two seeing as I missed
a
month.
Well that's about it for this month. I need to do some more work on
this system before I get back into writing but I hope to have some more
work out
there soon.
Enjoy!!
Think Linux is still stuck in commandline
mode? Check out these screenshots of my desktop. At the moment I'm
running six
desktops but I could run up to sixteen from memory. And best of all,
the Linux
system is free and comes with all the programs you could ever want,
unlike
Microsoft which will just give you an operating
system.
